Muskan and Jay love each other however at the insistence of her parents, Muskan marries a rich businessman, Sunny Leading a heartbroken Jay to commits suicide. While Sunny and Muskan, happily married, go on their honeymoon to a resort in Kerala. Sunny starts seeing Jay's ghost in several forms making him delirious and leaving Muskan wanting to go back. As the duo miss their flight, the duo is stuck at the resort, where Sunny continues to see Jay's ghost. Finally, when they are on their way back to Bombay by car, Muskan and Sunny are attacked by a group of goons who try to kidnap her. Sunny foils their plans. Back in Bombay, Sunny is still haunted by the ghost. One night, he finds Muskan romancing Jay's ghost in her sleep. For a change from all that's going on in their lives, the couple goes to the house of Muskan's parents. What happens there? Does Sunny find out about Muskan ex-boyfriend? What happens when Muskan learns that it is Jay's ghost that is haunting her husband? What were the exact circumstances of Jay's death?

Kamal Mehra (Sudesh Kumar) lives in the village with his mother Shanta Mehra (Lalita Pawar) and younger sister, Sharda (Rajshree). They are poor and his mother has to mortgage her house in the village in order to send Kamal to the city for further education. She expects him to pay off the mortgage once he gets a job. Kamal gets a job and returns to the village with a wife Mona (Shyama), who is considered too modern for the village. When Kamal returns to the city, he stops sending money to his family. The mother and daughter leave for the city when they are informed that Kamal is not well. They are treated badly by Mona, who with her spendthrift habits gets into arguments with Kamal. When Kamal leaves for a job outside the city, Mona has Shanta and Sharda thrown out of the house.\n\nWandering on the streets, Shanta and Sharda collide with Kumar's (Manoj Kumar) car, who takes them to his home. Kamal is an employee of Kumar, but the fact is unknown to mother and daughter. Kumar and Sharda start liking each other and he insists that they stay at his place till the mother recovers. When Kamal returns home, he is upset to see his mother and sister missing. He leaves some money he is carrying for his employer with Mona, and goes off to the village to look for them, but is unable to find them. Mona spends three-fourths of the money Kamal had left in her care, and he has to find a way to return the money. Finally, Kamal unites with his mother and sister; Mona has learned her lesson from her errant ways, and Kumar and Sharda get married.\n\nThere is a sub-plot in the form of Kamal and Mona's neighbours; one is Sunder (Mehmood) and his wife Geeta (Savitri), who is shown as the traditional wife in comparison to Mona. Another neighbour is Jackson (Johnny Walker), who has left his wife Ganga (Minu Mumtaz) in the village. Srishti Shetty is unemployed girl halled from Mangalore. She comes to Mumbai city and is staying with her cousin Priya. Priya is employed as personal Secretary for two years. Her theory is that the efficient lady secretary is one who marries her boss at the earliest. So she has a mission of marrying her boss. Srishti is not interested in Priya's theory Priya recommends Srishti to become a secretary. Somehow Srishti is trying to learn & understand the secretary ship and its responsibility from Priya. She makes up her Mind to become a personal secretary. Gaurav Jaitly is a young business man, who is handling a family business. His father Rajender Jaitly died some years back & mother died lately. He was forced to look after the business at a young age, when he is enjoying his youth. Gaurav is basically mamma's boy. He is interested in enjoying himself along with his best friend Vinay Patel listening to music and dancing. Vinay takes undue advantage of Gaurav's innocence. Every time Vinay visit's Gaurav he takes some financial help from Gaurav. He uses Gaurav's office for his enjoyment and they don't want to be disturbed. So Vinay suggest Gaurav to hire a Personal Secretary, Gaurav likes the ides and subsequently Srishti gest a job as a Personal secretary of Mr. Gaurav. Srishti in due course comes to know that Vinay is taking undue advantage of Gaurav Innocence's. She try's to exploit Vinay and reveal his realty to Gaurav. Priya is trying her best to convince Srishti to follow her idea of marrying the boss. Srishti some how convinced by Priya and follows her footsteps. Gaurav falls in love with Srishti and wants t marry her. Meanwhile for some reasons Priya resigns from her employment. Vinriya as to why ay is also interested to hire a personal secretary. As Priya was unemployed & qualified she gest the job. Meanwhile Vinay comes to know the intentions behind Srishti and Pthey have become secretaries. Ram Singh (or Ramu) (Dev Anand) is a good school boy. One day he brings a penknife which his classmate has forgotten. He shows it to his mother. When he says that it has to be returned next day his mother says it need not be returned and uses it.This spoils Ramu and he starts stealing petty things and his mother protects him. His uncle Shankar warns his mother that her pampering and encouragement is the Dushman for the son and one day he will be a big thief. This protection encourages him to become a thief. He becomes Dakhu Ram Singh. Police are after him and in the process, he has to leave the city and go to another city to escape the police. In the train, he steals and he gets an accomplice in Charodimal ( Radha Kishen). In the new city, he sees a girl Shiela (Usha Kiron)won the swing and cuts the swing and Shiela fall in the river. He pretends to save her and takes her necklace. They he comes to know that her brother is the CID inspector who is after him. So he entices her and marries and starts to continue his profession of stealing. His true identity is found by the Inspector who tries to arrest him. Shiela who is pregnant comes to save him and faints. The Inspector comes to attend fainted Shiela and Ram Singh escapes. She delivers a son. Ram Singh comes to see the son and Shiela leaves him. Ramu starts repenting and ultimately surrenders to Police.
