The story unfurls itself in the course of a TV game show, much akin to Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Jayakrishnan (Jayaram), the protagonist, comes to take part in the show, hosted by popular filmstar Mukesh. In the course of the show, the host pries into Jayakrishnan s past and the whole story is unfurled in flashback.Jayakrishnan, his uncle K. R. Menon (Narendra Prasad) and his cousin, Menon s daughter Radhika (Samyuktha Varma), who is Jayakrishnan s sweetheart too, lived together. All of them were lawyers and their house was nicknamed "Kodathi veedu" (Courthouse). Among the lawyers of Kodathi Veedu, Jayakrishnan and his Junior Ponnappan (Kalabhavan Mani) were the only utter. No client ever came in search of Jayakrishnan and he never earned anything. But he decided that he'd marry Radhika only after he had fought and won a legal battle. So Jayakrishnan, along with Ponnappan, decides to reopen the case of Hari Narayanan (Lal), who is locked up in a mental asylum for the past few years. Jayakrishnan, with timely help from Doctor Raziya (Manya), his friend, proves in court that Hari Narayanan is not insane and that he was dubbed a madman by his own brother Raveendran (Janardhanan), who wanted to wrest Hari's property too. It s uncle Menon who fights the suit from the other side. Jayakrishnan wins the case. Hari Narayanan is released from the mental asylum. Jayakrishnan is married to Radhika. But the film takes an altogether turn when Jayakrishnan discovers that Hari Narayanan was actually insane. Jayakrishnan is helpless as he was ashamed to expose Hari Narayanan's insanity. Meanwhile, the insane Hari Narayanan thinks that it was him who married Radhika. Then starts a series of strange happenings after which everybody believes that it is Jayakrishnan who is insane. Meanwhile, Hari Narayanan begins to seek revenge on his brother. He explodes his brother's factory, which causes a huge financial loss. It was Radhika, who legally offered bail for Hari Narayanan, responsible to repay this amount. Obviously, they were not able to pay and Radhika is in prison for this. After graduation, Vasu (Venkatesh) runs a college canteen, music school and teaches music for seven years to make his living. His father (Vijay Kumar) is an IPS officer and he wants Vasu to appear for Civil Services examinations to take up IPS career. But Vasu has different plans for his future. He dreams of becoming a musician and a singer. One fine day a young IPS officer comes to Vasu's places to seek the blessings of Vasu's father. He admits that Vasu's father is the source of inspiration for him to become an IPS officer. Vasu's father dejected that his son does not heed his advice of giving civils exams, feels bad about his son. Meanwhile, Vasu spots a beautiful girl Divya (Bhoomika Chawla) on the street. He plays every possible trick to woo her. But all his plans backfire on him and make himself a fool in the eyes of Divya. Vasu father spots Vasu bashing the guys up in the streets and asks him to leave the house and stay outside. Vasu leaves the house. Divya comes down to Vasu's place along with her luggage when Vasu was about to leave the house. Later on, Vasu comes to know that Divya is the daughter of Vasu's father's childhood friend. Vasu sees this as an opportunity to get close to Divya. He returns to his home and promises that he won't touch music again and concentrates only on his studies. Divya falls in love with Vasu and vice versa. But they never express their feelings towards each other. Vasu's sister loves the brother of Divya and it's okayed by the parents of both parties. The story begins with Mangalasherry Neelakantan's (Mohanlal) son Karthikeyan (Mohanlal), as he ventures out to make money which ultimately makes him a liquor baron. The relationship between Neelakantan and Karthikeyan deteriorates, as the father does not approve of his son's money-making methods. Mundakkal Shekharan (Napoleon) comes into the picture again after spending a term in prison for killing one of Neelakantan's friends. He decides to finish the Mangalasherry family by confiscating the house which was kept as collateral for Bhanumathi's (Revathy) treatment. Bhanumathi passes away and Karthikeyan is now bent on taking revenge.\nNeelakantan loses his home and Karthikeyan ventures out in an attempt to reclaim his ancestral home. In the meantime, Karthikeyan abducts Shekharan's daughter Janaki (Vasundhara Das) in an attempt to blackmail him (Shekharan), during which they fall in love with each other. The remainder of the movie is about how Karthikeyan manages to get his ancestral home back while Shekharan's nephew Mundakkal Rajendran (Vijayaraghavan) makes attempts to kill Karthikeyan, but instead kills Neelakantan by lighting him on fire and gets killed by Neelakantan after a knife throw which decapitates Rajendran. Karthikeyan, now infuriated, goes to kill Shekaran by burning him. But Warrier stops him and brings him back. The film gets its title from Mammootty's character's role Johnnie Varghese. He has a brother Bobby Varghese who studies in Bangalore degree college for Economics. A visit from his brother and friends changes Johnnie's mind and he joins college despite of his age. From there he clashes with Swamy who rules the college with his drug gang. Because of his love towards his brother Bobby, Johnnie joins to his college as a student and starts living together. Soon he became the hero of the college as well as rival to Saamy and his gang. Bobby falls in love with his classmate Chandini, who was a depressed girl, as she was an adopted child to her parents. Chandini was addicted to drugs by Saamy and was hospitalised. Johnnie suffers from eye sight problems and realizes that he will soon lose his sight completely. Because of this he wants to see Bobbie's marriage and pleads to Chandini's parents for the same. At last they agrees after hearing his story. On the night of the marriage Bobbie is killed by Saamy and his gang. When Johnnie comes to know about his brother's death, he rushes towards Saamy and Didi, the leader of the gang and kills them.
