Reena's husband (Shashi Kapoor) is a trusting, humane person who loves his wife very much and can't understand why she needs as much money as she does. Heer Ranjha - A True Love Story
2009 | 145 min
One of the classic love stories ever written, Heer Ranjha continues to be a dearly loved part of the collective and individual memory of millions across the world even after almost 300 years. Transcending boundaries of language and culture, its appeal has endured the test of time. Such is the reverence and affection that this story has earned from the people that it is no longer a story but has become a metaphor, a symbol of pure and eternal love. This film is an interpretation of the attempt to capture on celluloid the eternity of this metaphor.

Resham Ki Dori
1974 | 139 min
Ajit and Rajoo become orphans. Ajit, as the older brother takes care of his younger sister, at great personal sacrifice. When he tries to save his sister from sexual assault, death occurs. Is Ajit responsible? He emerges as Vinod from jail. In English the loose translation of the title would be "a silken thread" a compact translation would be a "silken skein". Ajit, and his little sister are separated by powers that neither he or she understand. Resham ki dori - is the thread that brings them back together. This is a story of three generations of arrogance of wealth. It is also a story of great wealth, dishonest managers, anger, arrogance in semi- feudal India. In a social context, it is a story of the death of the textile industry in Parel, Lower Parel in Bombay. It is a story of the exploitation of labour. Some scenes of labour poverty is gut wrenching. It is a vision of a person who could reverse the process of attrition in the textile industry, if only till the textile mill was set on fire for insurance. It is a great movie to watch, if you are looking out for the social context. Dialogues are predictable, mostly studio shot, editing is a bit loose but overall, a slightly differently managed film than the usual movies of the time. 1980's. Excellent storyline, and some superb acting.

Sheesh Mahal
1950 | 130 min
An old feudal aristocrat, Thakur Jaspal Singh (Sohrab Modi) lives with his two daughters, Ranja (Naseem Banu) and Nalini (Pushpa Hans), and son Balram in a grand mansion called Sheesh Mahal. He maintains his long family ancestry and honor, citing the valor of olden days. His way of life far exceeds the money he has. His children try to warn him regarding his excessive spending but his feudal mindset refuses to let others see that they are in dire straits. They finally have to sell their mansion to a former worker, Durgaprasad (Mubarak), who is now rich. They settle in a small hovel-like place. The brother finds work in the factory but meets with an accident where his leg is amputated. Desperate Ranjana finds work as a maid to Roopa (Nigar Sultana) Durgaprasad s daughter. Jaspal Singh refuses Durgadas when he comes to ask for his daughter's hand in marriage to his son Vikram (Jawahar Kaul) claiming that Durgadas may have bought the Sheesh Mahal but he's still a laborer compared to the aristocratic family. Balram argues with his father about keeping up false pretenses. Sundarmukh (Pran) who was to marry Ranjana but has broken the engagement because they are poor, comes and tells Jaspal that his daughter, in the guise of working at Durgadas' house is having an affair with his son. Jaspal is furious and rushes to kill Ranjana to avenge the Rajput honor. At the Sheesh Mahal, Durgadas stops him with a lecture on different warriors and honour. Jaspal falters and falls down the steps. Before he dies he blesses the union between Ranjana and Vikram.
